Slovak athlete and graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Finance at EUBA, Ing. Dominik Imrich, achieved exceptional success at the Academic European Combat Sports Championships, which took place from August 21 to 26, 2025 in Warsaw. In the heavily populated men's category up to 67 kg, he won a silver medal and the title of academic vice-champion of Europe.
This prestigious multi-sport event, organized every two years by the European University Sports Association (EUSA), welcomed athletes from 25 countries. Dominik represented not only his alma mater, but also Slovakia in karate, in the kumite sport match. His success is even more valuable considering the fact that he competed in a higher weight category than is usual for him. He entered four challenging matches against experienced opponents.
"Not everything always goes according to plan. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and fight in different conditions than you are used to," said Imrich after returning from the championships. "It was a test of will, determination and adaptation. It is in these moments that I realize that all the hard work in training is worth it. I had the honor of representing our university and Slovakia," added the new vice-champion of Europe.
This exceptional sporting achievement is further proof of the quality of students and graduates of Bratislava University of Economics and Business, who prove that combining higher education with top-level sports is possible. The university is very proud of its graduate and congratulates him on this great medal placement.
