University professor, internationally recognized representative of economic theories and the first governor of the Slovak National Bank, Imrich Karvaš, impressed the EUBA with his professionalism and valuable equipment like no other personality in its history. He participated in the founding of the private College of Commerce in Bratislava in 1940 and headed the Institute of National Economy in addition to the demanding work of the Governor of the Slovak National Bank.

Out of deep respect and gratitude for the work of this personality for university education and society, the Bratislava University of Economics and Business has been awarding the Imrich Karvaš Medal since 2000. This award is intended for personalities and institutions that have made exceptional contributions to the development of the university or have significantly contributed to the development of economic education and economic science.
