On June 7, 2018, the Rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava (UEBA), Mr. Ferdinand Daňo signed a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SIUBE) in Shanghai. The UEBA delegation was welcomed by SIUBE’s President, prof. Guohong Zhu. The meeting was attended by Ms. Nannan Zou, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ms. Lingjie Dai, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, and prof. Che Chunli, specialized in Central and Eastern Europe, who has already collaborated with the UEBA’s faculty. Cooperation was topic of the meeting. SIUBE offers multiple joint degree programmes with universities in Australia, UK, Canada and Germany, and is being involved in a number of important research projects. Both parties stressed that the potential for cooperation is great thanks to the analogous structure of both institutions.
A number of side events focused on educational cooperation was held on the occasion of 5th China – CEEC Educational Cooperation Conference on June 9 and 10, 2018 in Ningbo, China. Mr. Andrej Hrnčiar, the deputy speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic was among the speakers at the official opening of the event.
As one of the main speakers at 3rd China – CEEC Business School Summit, the UEBA’s Rector, Mr. Ferdinand Daňo opened a panel “Belt & Road Countries Forum on International Business Education” with a presentation on Experience of International Exchange and cooperation of the University of Economics in Bratislava. Last year, the UEBA became one of the founding members of the Alliance of Silk Road Business Schools which is a platform for cooperation between business schools within Silk Road project. The goal of the Alliance is to set up mechanisms for long-term cooperation that will allow for continual strengthening of the student exchange and cooperation of its members.
Sunday, June 10, 2018 saw 3rd China – CEEC Education EXPO, an event focused on presentation of participating universities from the 16+1 countries. 6 universities from Slovakia were represented at the educational fair. Members of the UEBA delegation informed visitors, university representatives from the Zheijang province and students on the international degree programmes at the UEBA.
In the afternoon, the UEBA delegation was welcomed by the President of the Ningbo University (NBU), prof. Manhong Shen. The meeting was attended by Ms. Huaxing Weng, director of the Department of International Relations, Ms. Peifeng Sheng and Ms. Weiwei Wang, representatives from the University’s School of Business and from Slovak side Mr. Boris Mattoš, vice-rector for the international cooperation and Peter Drábik, vice-dean of the Faculty of Commerce. As the Rector Daňo pointed out at the meeting, the cooperation with the Ningbo University is among the most dynamically developing. In 2016 a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions was signed, and the following year saw an agreement on student exchange and an agreement on double degree on both bachelor’s and master’s level between the NBU’s School of Business and UEBA’s Faculty of Business Management. A number of bilateral visits on various levels and student and faculty exchanges took place in this period.
During their stay at the NBU campus, the UEBA delegation visited a newly built library which was sponsored by one of the NBU’s graduates. The Slovak delegation also met with NBU students who were presented with the educational opportunities and international degree programmes at the UEBA by the vice-rector Mr. Boris Mattoš. NBU exchange students who were at the UEBA last year also attended the meeting. The students expressed a great satisfaction with their stay and appreciated the quality of the lecturers. Discussion on particular possibilities of cooperation where the vice-dean Mr. Peter Drábik negotiated with the NBU’s School of Business representatives followed afterwards.
