Code of Ethics for publishing in the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic
The Code of Ethics for publishing in the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review (the Code of Ethics has been elaborated in accordance with available guidelines and recommendations of COPE, the Elsevier publishing house for publishing ethics, the scientific board of the EUBA and the journal´s Editorial Board)
The Editorial Office of the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review is responsible for overseeing all phases of the publishing process. The Code of Ethics aims to contribute to ensure a rigorous scientific level also by reinforcing the standards of the Code of Ethics for publishing of scientific papers, and by taking principal measures against breach of those standards. It is essential to implement the standards of ethical behaviour when publishing scientific papers within all aspects of the publishing process and for all stakeholders involved (authors, editors, reviewers, the publisher).
The Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review journal upholds a rigorous double-blind peer review process, ensuring that both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other. This practice promotes impartiality and objectivity in the evaluation of manuscripts, aligning with the journal's commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in scholarly publishing.
Authors´ obligations as stipulated within the Code of Ethics
Norm for manuscripts, access to data and data archiving
Authors of the papers are obliged to utilise objective argumentation and objective results of scientific research. The database of the scientific research shall be presented in an exact manner. Scientific studies must be sufficiently thorough, and the references must allow readers to objectively reproduce their work.
Authors of the contributions may be asked to provide source data used in studies and articles for the purpose of an editorial check, and if possible, the author shall archive the used data for a reasonably long time after their paper based on them is published.
Misleading or consciously incorrect declarations are considered unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.
Originality and plagiarism
Authors shall verify that they are submitting an original piece of work, and if other authors´ sources had been used, these must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any of its forms represents unethical behaviour and is unacceptable. Plagiarism has many forms including presenting someone else´s manuscript as one´s own, transcription and paraphrasing of larger parts of other authors´ works without citation, up to taking ownership over other authors´ research results.
Authors submitting manuscripts are aware that their works will undergo thorough plagiarism checks to ensure originality and adherence to the highest standards of academic integrity.
Multiple, abundant and simultaneous publishing
It is considered unacceptable for the author to publish manuscripts actually dealing with identical research in more than a single journal or a primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript in several journals is considered unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.
Citing of sources
It is necessary for authors to cite publications with a crucial impact on the nature of the submitted paper.
Papers must always include correct and full citations of other authors´ works. Information acquired in a confidential manner must not be used without explicit written consent of the author of those documents, or the holder of the respective property rights.
Copyrights to the paper
The authorship of a paper shall be limited to those who have considerably contributed to its final form, formatting, analysis, elaboration, or interpretation of the submitted study, paper, contribution. Everyone who has considerably contributed to the creation of the paper shall be stated as a co-author. Should there be others who have participated in certain important aspects in the respective research, they should be included in the paper. The corresponding (responsible) author is obliged to ensure that all authors are included in the paper, they have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its being submitted to the journal.
Fundamental errors in published works
If the author finds a serious mistake or inaccuracy in their own published work, they are obliged to immediately inform thereof the journal´s editor or the publisher and to collaborate with the editor on withdrawal of the article from the process of its elaboration, or when publishing the corrected version of the article. Should the editor or the publisher be made aware by a third party, that the published work contains serious errors, it is the author´s responsibility, upon the editor´s notice, to immediately withdraw the paper from its production, or to correct it, or to provide the Editorial Office with a proof concerning the correctness of the paper´s original conclusions.
Obligations of the editors as stipulated within the Code of Ethics
Decision on publishing
The decision about including articles into particular issues of the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review is made by the journal´s Editorial Board. The Editorial Board considers reviewers´ reports and further documents provided by the Executive Editor. When validating a paper and its significance for the scientific community and the readers, the Executive Editor follows the guidelines of the Editorial Office. Hence, the Executive Editor is subject to legal requirements in case of insult of honour, copyrights breach and plagiarism. In their work, the Executive Editor is allowed to cooperate with other editors and reviewers.
Fair play
The Executive Editor handles the manuscripts regarding their content and quality, with no regards to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnical origin, nationality or political opinions of the authors.
Confidentiality
Neither the Executive Editor nor anyone from the Editorial Office of the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review must make available information concerning a submitted manuscript to subjects different from the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, Editorial Board members and the publisher.
Publishing and a conflict of interest
Unpublished data contained in a submitted manuscript cannot be used within the Executive Editor´s own research, without explicit written consent of the author. Significant information or thoughts acquired during the review process are considered confidential and cannot be used for the purpose of a personal advantage. Editors and reviewers abstain from evaluating articles, by which a conflict of interest resulting from competitive or other relations could occur, including mutual collaboration with the authors. The Editorial Office requests that authors inform about a possible conflict of interest, and publish a correction, if the conflict of interest emerges after the paper is published.
Participation and collaboration when handling complaints
The Editorial Office will take concrete steps in case of complaints of ethical nature concerning a submitted or a published manuscript. These measures normally include contacting the author of the manuscript or the study, and proper evaluation of the respective complaint, or raised claims.
The measures shall include also further communication with respective authorities and research institutions, and in case the legitimacy of the complaint is confirmed, its correction will be published, the article will be withdrawn, etc. Each reported unethical behaviour when publishing in the journal must be investigated also in case the article had been published longer time ago.

Documentation for editor´s decision
The reviewer helps the editor and the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review when deciding on publishing/rejecting of a contribution. Reviewer´s comments help the author to improve the paper. Review is an inseparable part of formal scientific communication. The Editorial Office of the scientific journal Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review believes that all authors who are willing to contribute to the journal by their publishing activity, are equally obliged to participate in reviewing of submitted contributions.
Further aspects/time factor of the review process
Each proposed reviewer who does not consider themselves qualified to review a manuscript, or is aware that they will not be able to deliver the review report within the deadline, shall make the Editorial Office aware thereof and excuse themselves from the review process.
Confidentiality
The reviewer is obliged to handle each manuscript obtained for a review as confidential material. They must not show the manuscript to anyone, it must not be discussed with anyone, with the exception given by the Executive Editor of the Ekonomické rozhľady/Economic Review journal.
Objectivity
Review report must be elaborated in an objective manner. Personal criticism of the author is unacceptable. Reviewers are expected to express their opinions in an expert, clear, comprehensible way, and to adequately support them by arguments.
Citing of sources
Reviewers should highlight data and information that the author cited in a wrong way, or did not cite at all. Any declaration, that the data and arguments have already been cited before, should be properly documented. The reviewer should notify the Executive Editor in case of a crucial similarity or an overlap between the reviewed manuscript and any other published study they have knowledge of.
Publishing and a conflict of interest
Unpublished information contained in a submitted manuscript must not be used within the reviewer´s own research, without explicit written content of the author. Significant information or thoughts acquired during the review process are considered confidential and must not be used for the purpose of the reviewer´s personal advantage. Reviewers should not be evaluating papers by which a conflict of interest is possible to occur, resulting from competitive or other relations with the authors of the contributions.
