On 20 - 23 July 2023 the European Universities Combat Sports Championship took place in the Croatian city of Zagreb, attended by 1537 athletes from 398 universities and 31 European countries. The European Universities Combat Sports Championship is held under the auspices of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), alternating every year with the European University Games. The event featured contests in 4 combat sports: karate, judo, taekwondo and kickbox.

Slovakia and the University of Economics in Bratislava was represented by Dominik IMRICH, student at the Faculty of Economics and Finance, who competed in men's kumite 60 kg among 17 athletes. Dominik beat France's Jeremy Giraud 1:0 in the first round and Jao Ribeira of Portugal 9:0 in the second round, only to lose in semi-finals to Turkey's Burak Ozdemir, who eventually became champion of this category, 1:2. Dominik then won the bronze medal match against Cuba Parris of Great Britain 7:1, taking the third place.

Dominik Imrich was also a member of the team which beat the team of Portugal 3:2 in the first round of men's kumite involving 12 teams and went on to lose to Ukraine 0:3 in the semi-finals. The bronze medal match saw the Slovakian men's team beat Turkey 3:2, taking joint third place.

Dominik is the only EUBA student who has brought home medals from this largest university combat sports event.
