Dear colleagues, dear students,

the beginning of October 2020 is a significant period for the University of Economics in Bratislava, as the University of Economics in Bratislava celebrates its 80 years since the establishment of its predecessor - College of Commerce in Bratislava. The College of Commerce in Bratislava was established in October 1940 as the third Slovak university and its establishment was influenced by the need to foster academically-educated economic workers in Slovakia at the time when Slovak students lost the opportunity to study at the University of Business in Prague.

The last thirty years of operation of the University of Economics in Bratislava on the higher education market, not only in the Slovak Republic but also in the European educational area, have been marked by development in all areas of its activity. During this period, as in its entire previous history, many important experts, teachers and researchers, employees, including tens of thousands of students, worked at the University of Economics in Bratislava, whose activity and outcomes in the field of pedagogy, research and study contribute, thus today the University of Economics in Bratislava is perceived as one of the largest educational and scientific research institutions in the Slovak Republic.

It is, therefore, appropriate to thank all former and current teachers, researchers, staff, students, and graduates for the work that has shaped the history of the university.

On each anniversary, the university takes stock of what it has managed to achieve in the previous period not only in improving the quality of the educational process but also in achieving quality results in science and research, as well as in internationalization and international cooperation.

Positive results of individual faculties and its teachers, work of other employees and achievements and outcomes of our students in domestic and international environment testify to the fact that the university belongs to respected higher educational institutions of related professional orientation and is accepted by both domestic organizations, as well as, by important foreign partners with whom we have a successful long-term cooperation.

We all had other ideas about the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the founding of our alma mater, we were engaged in the preparation of activities that we wanted to carry out in this period for both employees and university students. Unfortunately, not only the University of Economics in Bratislava but also all the universities and the whole Slovak society were hit by a coronavirus pandemic in March this year. This situation also affected the activities of our entire university, so we had to put these on hold in the current period and move them to a period when the situation allows. I believe that we will succeed during the upcoming academic year.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the University of Economics in Bratislava, I once again thank the generations of teachers, researchers, employees, students and graduates for their contribution to the development of the University of Economics in Bratislava and wish them all many personal and professional successes, many creative ideas and capabilities to carry out other challenging tasks that await us all in the future.
