On 19 November 2019, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Slovakia, H.E. Ms Bridget Ann Brink visited the University of Economics in Bratislava and gave a lecture at the 26th edition of Diplomacy in Practice lecture series.

The opening part of her speech was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and the importance of this historical event for the lives of Slovaks and young people. She highlighted the importance of freedom and democracy, which should not be taken for granted. The Ambassador also stressed the importance of inter-state cooperation in order to achieve common goals.

Students took the opportunity to discuss with the ambassador. They were interested in the current challenges the US are facing, such as an armaments policy, environmental pollution, or the US-China trade war. Finally, Ambassador Brink wished students good luck in the future and also encouraged them not to be afraid of failure.

After a lecture, Ambassador Brink met with the EUBA’s Vice-Rectors who informed guests about cooperation with US universities. The meeting was attended by Mr Boris Mattoš, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Ms Jana Péliová, Vice-Rector for Academic Project Management and Ms Paula Puškárová, Vice-Rector for Science and Doctoral Studies. In addition to Ambassador Brink, the US Embassy was also represented by Mr David Duerden, Head of the Press and Cultural Department and Ms Natália Pindrochová from the Press and Cultural Department.
